Concert in honor of Beverly Grisby's 90th!



The Los Angeles Chapter of the National Association of Composers is pleased to invite its members to participate in a concert Sunday afternoon, January 21, 2018 at the Recital Hall, California State University Northridge, 2 pm. The concert will include a performance by Dr. Deborah Kavasch of Beverly Grigsby’s work for soprano and computer music, Shakti, in celebration of Beverly Grigsby’s 90th birthday. We invite you to propose a piece and specific performers for this program, within the following parameter. Preference will be given to works related to Beverly Grigsby’s pioneering work in electronic, computer and experimental music.
All composers who have joined or renewed their NACUSA/LA membership for 2017, by the submission deadline, Sunday, November 26, 2017 at 10:00 PM are eligible.

Contemporary Music for Contemporary Issues


NACUSA Los Angeles chapter composers will present a concert of "Contemporary Music for Contemporary Issues" on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 PM, September 23, 2017 at the Tustin Presbyterian Church in downtown Tustin, California. Admission is free. Parking is available behind the church and on nearby side street. 

Music by Adrienne Albert, Richard Derby, Margaret Meier, Allen Menton, Deon Nielsen Price, David Raiklen, David SaldaƱa, and Katherine Saxon. Featuring a variety of local musicians and a unique musical virtual reality experience.

CONTEMPORARY MUSIC FOR CONTEMPORARY ISSUES


A concert of music by NACUSA Los Angeles chapter composers will bepresented on Saturday afternoon 2:00 PM, September 23, 2017 at theTustin Presbyterian Church in downtown Tustin, California.  The theme of the concert is “Contemporary Music for Contemporary Issues.”

If you have a piece (or can write a piece) loosely relating to contemporary “issues” please send a description including the name of the piece, its instrumentation and its duration to Richard Derby at richardderby@att.net by July 14th, 2017.  Details about the concert, including the pieces selected for the program, will follow at a later
date.

All composers must be members in good standing with NACUSA/LA.
Those who submitted for the earlier aborted concert at the Art Museum are invited to be on the program. Theme is “CONTEMPORARY MUSIC ON CONTEMPORARY ISSUES”

-          For this concert, composers will be asked to play or sing
their own works or to bring their own performers and instruments.

-          The venue does have a good piano that we can use.

-          There is parking in back of the church and on nearby streets.


GALA RECITAL for PIANO


The Los Angeles Chapter of the National Association of Composers is pleased to invite Los Angeles composers to participate in a Gala Recital for Piano  or Piano+1 on Sunday afternoon, July 30, 2016. After our success there a year ago, we are looking forward to returning to Hollywood Piano in Burbank.


Works of any style with durations up to 10 minutes are welcome.

NACUSA-LA Concerts are offered FREE of Charge to the Los Angeles Community.

Composers are invited to perform their own music, or furnish performers.  NACUSA-LA will cover publicity and programs, but not performer fees for this program.

All Southern California composers who have joined or renewed their membership for 2016, by the submission deadline, June 28 at 10:00 PM are eligible.

All submissions are online and include score, audio (Mp3 ok) if available, duration, bio 150 words, program note (up to 150 words) and names of performers.   Please submit questions and materials (online only) to deon@culvercrest.com

Music in the Chambers

The Los Angeles Chapter of the National Association of Composers, USA (NACUSA- LA) announces the Culver City Centennial Celebration Music in the Chambers concert on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at 7:00 PM in the Mike Balkman Council Chambers at Culver City City Hall. Featured artists are The Lyris Quartet (renowned string players), and Culver City artists: Dr. Berkeley Price (clarinet), Nancy Roth (viola), Stephen M. Fry (piano), Warren Sherk and Deon Nielsen Price (composers); and also Los Angeles composers Frank Campo and Daniel Kessner.

The April 15, 2017 concert was inspired by the Culver City Redevelopment Agency’s Music in the Chambers series, which occurred from 2003 to 2012. Dr. Deon Nielsen Price was featured, along with other local composers and performers, for Music
in the Chambers concerts in 2003 and 2004, The April 15 concert is, in part, a reconstruction of those concerts with the addition of new string quartets, film music from the 1930s, and Price’s “Serenade in the Chambers” and Tableaux for String Quartet
and Clarinet based on Culver City history with scene titles: “La Ballona,” “Alabados y Fiestas,” “’Keep ‘em laughing’ (Hal Roach)”, “Sister Cities,” and “Enterprising Harry Culver.”

This performance is made possible in part by the City of Culver City and its Culver City Performing Arts Grant Program with support from Sony Pictures Entertainment. Additional support is by Sorrento Italian Market, John Riordan Plumbing, Culver Crest Publications and other local businesses.

Performance Opportunity! - Moved See Current Call for Scores
Orange County Center for Contemporary Art  - Concert Program


We have the opportunity to organize a concert of music by NACUSA Los Angeles chapter composers during the month of June at the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art in downtown Santa Ana, California. The Center will be presenting an exhibit entitled “Art As Protest” from June 3 through July 8. The exhibitions director Carolyn Yarnell has invited NACUSA to present pieces that are related to the theme of the exhibit: protest.
If you have a piece (or can write a piece) about “protest” please send a description including the name of the piece, its instrumentation and its duration to Richard Derby at richardderby@att.net by March 17, 2017.

A String Quartet Celebration Sunday, Feb 5th


Please join us for an a STRING QUARTET CELEBRATION in honor of Frank Campo's 90th birthday. We are thrilled to have the LYRIS QUARTET giving this performance of works by NACUSA composers. Featured will be Compo's Improvisation for String Quartet.
